Friends, Please come and join us for a weekend of Celebrating 40 Years within the Society, through Baronial Historical Displays, Contests and Classes in the Arts and Sciences, Contests in the Arts Martial (Armored, Rapier and Archery), Dance, Bardic and of course Feasting.

Classes

All are welcome to bring an Arts or Sciences project to the event and share their skills with others. If you would like to teach a class, please contact the Event Steward. Here are a few announced classes:

Blacksmithing
Interested in Blacksmithing? Stop by THL Pedro Ramirez's Blacksmithing Shop to ask questions and observe various Blacksmithing techniques. The smithy will be open Saturday and Sunday. Times to be announced.
Finger Loop Braiding
Finger loop braiding has been found in London excavations dating from about the 12-15th centuries, and was used for trim, purse cords, etc. There are many braiding variations possible; this class will teach two ways to weave a simple 5-loop braided cord. While braiding, the end can be secured by threading through a carabiner, looped over toes, etc.; some safety pins will be provided for those who wish to use them. The class length should allow everyone time to practice and troubleshoot, and get a braid done.

Bring your own embroidery thread or crochet cotton (yarn doesn't work well), or purchase from the instructor for $1 per person.

One-hour class, all ages are welcome. Taught by Stacy.

Making Cordials SCA Style
Learn some basics of making cordials with ready ingredients and alcohol. There will be a small historical portion detailing the evolution of cordials as well as a hands on portion that will step by step go through the how to make a cordial for your next event or guests you want to impress.

There will be hand-outs and a small portioning of cordials for tasting and discussion. A donation is appreciated to help pay for the ingredients.

Attendees must be 18 or over due to the use of alcohol.

One-hour class, 7 - 8 pm Friday evening. Possible repeat on Sunday if time permits. Taught by Lord Edward.

Tasting (and Enjoying!) Wine and Mead
How we taste wine (etc.), and why we like what we do. Decanting? Red wine, white wine, mead, etc... Understanding the components of taste aroma, and bouquet. Wine-glasses will be available for tasting. Wine and mead samples will be provided. Participants are welcome to contribute some wine or mead for the class, it will be put to good use. Anyone wishing to contribute please contact the facilitator.

Hand-outs included ($1 donation appreciated, but not required).

One-hour class on Friday evening, sometime between supper and War Court. Taught by Lord Douglas of York.

Mead-Making 201 - a continuation of last year's class
A discussion of mead varieties, period vs modern techniques of "home" wine/mead making, and a sampling of the Cyser (Apple Mead) made during last year's class. Making a sparkling mead will also be discussed.

Cancellations & Refunds:

If you want to cancel a reservation, please let the event steward know before August 30th. Reservations cancelled after this date cannot be refunded.

Things You Should Bring

Besides the obvious stuff you would normally bring to an SCA event, you may want to bring the following:

Pillow and Sleeping Bag or Blankets - The bunk beds in the cabins have mattresses but no sheets, pillows, or blankets. And although the cabins have electric heating, you'll want to be covered when someone opens the door at night.

Fabric Sheets & Pins - If you're sleeping in a cabin, you may wish to hang privacy curtains around your bunks. About 2 x 6 yards of fabric ought to be enough. You'll also need kilt pins or jumbo safety pins to fasten them around the rails of the top bunk, and/or strong cord to hang them from the rafters. Some people use light tapestries or paint designs on their curtains to help decorate the cabin.

Heavy Cloak - It gets chilly after sunset.

Towels, Soap, Shampoo, etc. - So you can use the showers.

Ear Plugs - To block out the snores of your cabin-mates.
