A Patent of Arms (PoA) is given automatically to recipients of the Peerage Orders (Laruel, Pelican, Chivalry, and Royal Peerages). Although techincally it is possible for a Patent of Arms to be awarded by itself (i.e. without one of the specific Peerage Orders), it is extremely unlikely to happen. A Patent of Arms conveys a rank higher than that of a Grant of Arms or Court Barony.
